The TVCC (Television Cultural Centre) is one of three buildings of the Beijing prestige project China Central Television Headquarters scheduled to open in time for the Olympic Games. Designed as an antagonist to the spectacular main production and office building CCTV the smaller TVCC not only houses TV studios and a hotel but also all the public areas of the project under a characteristic roof, which extends across the building from East to West. The hotel rooms are stacked atop each other to form a tower 159 meters high and thanks to the staggered shift to the southa pixel-like facade emerges. All the other uses are distributed to boxes in the first four storeys or arranged like public urban spaces so that an urban microcosm is generated inside. The public areas include a theater for 1,500 persons but also big-screen cinemas; a mobile partition slides back to reveal the theater so that the classic separation of foyer, auditorium and stage is canceled.

The Jury citation reads, in part: »Even though this could be said to be a small offshoot as it were of the adjacent CCTV complex, which is still under construction and is much larger this virtually unknown building is characterized by a series of outstanding features. ... A new solution for a highrise with a novel twist.«
